Horse Blanket from Central Asia

Horse Blanket from Central AsiaThis horse blanket probably comes from Turkmenistan and could be Teke or possibly Yomud. It this may have been made for a camel, but it would certainly fit a horse.

It is blanket with knotted pile and is very fine, probably made for a wedding with the white in the design. It has tassels which would have originally run along all sides.

These items were common but they are found less and less as nomads settle in cities and men tend to ride motorbikes.

36” (91.5 cm) x 45” (117 cm)

Provenance; purchased from Mr. Gamlili 1994 £80.00 for private collector
