Cigarette Lighter of a Horse and Jockey

Cigarette Lighter of a Horse and JockeyThis is an unusual artefact. They are usually catalogued as Austrian and made from a metal alloy called mazak. They are made to resemble the famous cold painted Austrian bronzes.

It must date from the pre-Piggott era as the jockey is riding with relatively short stirrups. More in the style of Steve Donoghue, it may be traceable through the colours which are cream and red stripes with red sleeves.

Hence the information on this page will be updated. I would hazard a guess that this was made in honor of a famous racehorse. Early to mid 20th Century. 7” 18.5 cm x 7” 18 cm.

Provenance purchased by Dale Durfee, 2002. On loan.
