A Decorative Hanging called a Kalaga

A Decorative Hanging Called a KalagaThis decorative hanging comes from Mandalay, Burma and depicts a Burmese horseman.

The horse is enveloped with a decorative blanket and the legs and neck are decorated with metallic sequins.

One of the features of these delightful pieces is that they are often made from worn out monk’s robes. This one is backed with orange coloured material taken from old monk’s robe.

It is decorated with imitation rubies, for which Burma is famous and tiny metal cups and silver sequins.

23” x 23” (58.5 cm x 58.5 cm)

Provenance: purchased from John Gillow 1990’s by private collector. Approx value £25
