Western Stock Saddle, USA

This saddle is made by H.S. Lebman, San Antonio, Texas. The firm is still making saddles.

This one is probably about 80 years old, and is a stockman’s saddle with the high cantle and roping pommel. The pommel is designed to provide support when breaking youngsters and roping.

All Western tack and saddles are made to be taken apart and rebuilt whenever necessary and employ little stitching. They are lashed together with a variety of types of lashing and rigging. The same principles of attachment are use in tall ship. The art of lashing is therefore probably older than that of stitching.

This is a good example of a well worn piece of cowboy equipment and has seen a lot of use.
