Vaquero Saddle, California

This is a copy of a Californian Vaquero saddle after 1835. The stirrups are carved in wood with taperderos to protect the feet against cactus.

This saddle has been made as a faithful replica of saddles found from that period. Saddles made by Joe McCummins can be seen at the Lompoc mission in California. He began making them to provide objects of interest for the reinactments locals put on at the mission.

Caroline Baldock asked if he would make one for the Museum of the Horse. This he did.
