Jockey: Frank Furlong

mr-frank-furlongMr. Frank Furlong set the seal on his fame as an amateur rider when he won the Grand National of 1935, on the eight year old Reynoldstown, in the record time of 9 mins 20 ½ seconds.

The winner was owned and trained by his father Major Noel Furlong. At one time an officer in the 9th Lancers. Mr Furlong gave early evidence of his riding ability ‘over the sticks’ when steering Robina Tiptoe to victory in the four miles National Hunt Steeplechase at Cheltenham, 1932 and finished second in the 1933 Grand National on Really True.

Since that time he has ridden many good winners, generally carrying the colours of his father.
