Mayhew Side Saddle, 1930s

Mayhew Side Saddle, 1930s

This saddle measures 15 inches from the withers to the cantle. The Mayhew saddle is padded higher on the left than the right to accommodate the right leg. It is easy to girth up by the rider as there is no second strap holding down the right-hand flap. It has a balance strap and this one has a suede seat. It would be like the saddles found in paintings by Sir Alfred Munnings, such as the Three Dianas’, and, ‘My wife, my horse, myself.’

Provenance: purchased 2016 £2000.
