Carved Wooden Horse from India
This object is an elaborately decorated carved horse from Rajasthan, India with full regalia.
It is painted white and decorated with colours that have faded and worn. It is the most impressive and beautiful object and so stylistically Indian. It may well have been made as a pair to stand either side of an entrance.
Its purpose is unclear, but is unlikely to have been made to stand in a temple.
28” (71 cm) to withers, 36” (91.5 cm) length
Provenance, purchased by Dale Durfee. On loan.
