Jane Austin tells us in Pride and Prejudice, that they returned from Huntsford in Kent, by way of Bromley and from there they took the stage to Epsom where they changed horses at the Spread Eagle. Indeed Coaches left from Epsom to London hourly, and late in the evening there was the mail coach. You could get to Guildford, Horsham,Dorking, Worthing, Bognor Arundal, and Chichester daily from the Spread Eagle and the Kings Head both were post houses. You can also purchase the book of coach time from London to all over England. It is called: A guide to stage coaches, diligences, waggons, carts coasting vessels, barges and boats, which carry passengers and merchandise from London to the different towns in Great Britain. this is a page from it.
