Girth Buckle from Iran

These are a pair of brass girth buckles made in Iran.

Louise Firouz gifted these from her collection at Ghara Tepe Stud, Hashtgerd, Iran.

Girth buckles without a pin are a standard piece of equipment in Iran. The Girth is knotted round them in much the same way a cinch is done up on a Western Saddle.

These simple items may not have changed for thousands of years.

3” (7.5 cm) at base, 2 1/2” (6 cm) height

Provenance: gift from Louise Firouz for The Museum of the Horse 2001 value unknown.
