Iranian Silk Riding Jacket
This is a man’s riding jacket. There is little difference between the Teke style and the Iranian’s, but this one has yellow stripes in it. It would be tied at the waist.
The jackets are surprisingly warm and are often lined with curious Russian cotton prints. Much of the fun of buying one is to look inside and see what age the lining is and where it comes from.
Laterly the Turkmen have been using acrylic thread and this makes the coats very stiff. They like the new materials.
Provenance; purchased by private collector in Jagalan on the Iranian/Turkmen border in 2001, approx value £185
