Jockey: Cliff Richards
‘Cliff’ Richards created a big surprise when winning the Criterion Nursery Handicap Newmarket 1935 on Galsonia at 20-1 in Mrs C Jarvis’ colours.
Richards followed his brother Gordon (seen in No 22 of this series) serving his apprenticeship with the same master Martin Hartigan. His first important success came in 1929 when he won the Cesarewitch on West Wicklow, following this a year later with the Cambridgeshire on The Pen.
Of the forty-two winner he rode in the 1935 season, his most outstanding was on the two year old Embuche in the Lancashire Breeders’ Produce Stakes Liverpool.
