Jockey: Fred Hunter

fred-hunterOne of the most promising of the younger jockeys is Fred Hunter who, with his twin brother, Maurice and his younger brother John was apprenticed to Stanley Wootton’s Epsom stable. In the familiar Wootton colours, F Hunter rode a number of good winners in the 1935 season, four of them on the smart two-year-old Beagle G.

In the Home-Bred Plate, Gatwick, 1935, he scored a great success on Ballywellbroke, when beating Gordon Richards on Gracious Gift. Born at Brownstown on the Curragh, in 1915, Hunter is the son of Fred Hunter, the former leading Irish jockey.
