Jockey: Michael Beary

michael-bearyIn a stirring finish, Michael Beary triumphed by a head when riding Capt. A. Stanley Wilson’s John James in the Great Northern handicap, Doncaster, 1935.

Coming from Ireland several seasons ago, Beary quickly revealed himself as a brilliant horseman. His first important success was on Verdict in the 1923 Cambridgeshire . In 1925 he created a big surprise when in the Gimcrack Stales, York, on Sir Abe Baily’s Lex, he beat Coronach, a 7 to 1 on chance.

Beary rode the St Leger winner, Trigo, 1929, and was also successful on Udaipur in the 1932 Oaks.
