John Leech, Rotten Row; The Old Foxhunter.

The fabulously talented John Leech, who completed in his lifetime an extraordinary amount of illustrative art work. He was a regular contributor to the London Illustrated News. He did all the illustrations for Surtees. and this one is of Rotten Row and a young man turning to his mother perhaps and saying he would rather be riding across country with the men. 

Flora, “Well Ronald and how do you like Rotten Row?”

Ronald, “Oh pretty well, but I’de rather now work to a man who has been accustomed to go cross-country as I have all my life.”

It is a wonderful piss take of a snotty little kid who is so spoilt he thinks he is a brilliant rider and thinks Rotten Row a bit tame.
