Mounted Warrior from Mali

This statue is of a warrior with a spear in hand was purchased in Mali, and is the work of the Senufo tribe. It would kept on the altar.

They would put this statue at the entrance of a village at a time of war when it was necessary to gather the villages to defend their homes. It is much stylized with the elongated head and the v shaped body.

12 1/4” (31 cm) height, 8” (22 cm) in length

Provenance: purchased from Harvey Derrien by private collector for £90 2007.
