Old Mexican Spur early 19th century
According to the History of the Spur by Charles de Lact Lacy, this spur is early 19th century. Its inspiration is Moorish, but so much of their accoutrements travelled across the seas to Mexico leaving their influence. This spur has a lot of age on it. There is a round heel plate which was not copied in the European spur. The kidney shaped which connects the heel plate to the rowel is also typical of the Mexican spur. This design taken to Mexico by Cortes, and there it evolved into the modern spur used by the Cowboys. This one is much damaged the rowells are bent. One good think about rowels is that they should always roll and so it is very hard to hurt a horse badly with them.
