Saddlers Hall, Coat of Arms
Every aristocrat had a coat of arms, so did all the guilds. Today the need for a logo, or company insignia, or stamp continues to utilise the concept of needing to be recognised. That was what the coat of arms implied it told you who was your opponent in the joust, or whose carriage had just passed. The breweries all had their logo or arms transferred onto horse brasses for the pleasure of public recognition.
Saddlers’ Hall Coat of Arms
This coat of arms is from the Saddlers’ Hall. The historic livery company, established in 1363. It consists of a palfrey, two horses, a bascinet and the motto, ‘Hold Fast Sit Sure’: ‘Our Trust is in God’. This one is a copy and was given into the safe keeping of museumofthehorse.org.
